Ladybug Creation for the garden!

Ladybug Ladybug fly away home! 

          

It's a lucky day when I see a ladybug in the garden!  Kids love 'em, and it's a great way to start a conversation up on nature's bugs.

I know everyone loves seeing them in the garden.  They are so cute and adorable!

Just a few facts on the Ladybugs, they are small, winged insects widely recognized for their black and red coloring. The sweet and intriguing colors of the ladybug make them a favorite of toddlers and small children. Ladybug crafts, such as pet rocks and garden decorations, are fun, simple activities to do with children. If the weather is warm and sunny, why not set up a painting station at the park or in your backyard to make creating the ladybugs extra special. click here for more on ladybugs!

In many cultures the ladybug has been believed to bring good luck.   In England ladybug signifies a good harvest. In France, it means good weather is coming. In Sweden, if a ladybug lands on a girl's hand, it's said to be taking measurements for her wedding gloves.

Another popular belief is that if ladybug lands on you, you can make a wish and chant:

"Ladybird, ladybird fly away home.

Your house is on fire and your children all roam."

If the ladybug flies away, your wish will come true.

There are many creative ways to get your children outside and excited about nature.  When you can point out the magic of the ladybug to children,  they will love to recite the popular children's poem! or at least I know I do!  I have a great book called the 5 little ladybugs...to get the kids outside, snuggle up on a quilt or in a hammock and read to them.  Opens up all kinds of ideas and then you can talk about how they are beneficial for the garden.

I was gifted some leftover garden pavers and I have seen many ideas for painting them for different holidays but it is springtime and wanted to do the ladybugs for they would be perfect for my garden. 

 Because of their bright colors and fun look they are a very popular garden decoration. Your ladybugs can be placed almost anywhere in your garden, whether it be a flower or vegetable garden.


Your own ladybug paver is also easier than you think.

these are the one's I painted, they are so cute!

Time to gather your supplies:
acrylic paint in red, black and white,  a brush and acrylic sealer.

Paint the body of your ladybug with the red paint.  (let the kids paint another color if they want to)
the head is then painted black.  make a line down the back and paint the black spots.  Using the white paint for their eyes, let it dry before you add the iris any color you want really, I just used black but I have done blue and green eyes too.  and the that's it!  let it dry overnight and add your sealer.  So easy and what a great addition to your garden!
